How To Google Play Movies To Mac

I was recently given a keynote presentation which contained a movie. When I played the presentation the sound worked but the movie was blank. It turned out the movie was not in a format that Quicktime could play. There are many such formats. When I tried to play the movie in Quicktime I got an error saying ‘The document could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands. You may need to install additional software to open this type of file.’

Google Play Movies and TV gets AirPlay support, but Apple TV app still missing Google's iOS app has been updated to support AirPlay on the Apple TV, but we're still missing a tvOS app. Google Play Movies & TV syncs movies and TV shows from your Google Play account so that you can watch them on an iOS device, on any HDTV using Chromecast or on Apple TV using AirPlay. In-app purchase is not supported, so sign in to Google Play online. Open Google Play Movies & TV, then search for movies and shows and manage your wishlist. Perian is a handy free program that allows your mac to play almost any movie format, including AVI files from a Windows computer. Perian just sits in the background and allows other programs (like Keynote) to play movies that they wouldn’t normally be able to play. It claims to play all the following movie formats: AVI, DIVX, FLV, MKV, GVI, VP6, and VFW, MS-MPEG4 v1 & v2, DivX, 3ivx, H.264, Sorenson H.263, FLV/Sorenson Spark, FSV1, VP6, H263i, VP3, HuffYUV, FFVHuff, MPEG1 & MPEG2 Video, Fraps, Snow, NuppelVideo, Techsmith Screen Capture and DosBox Capture.

I even tried to get Google Play and Vudu content to work through the Kindle's browser but had no luck. Windows Phone As you'd expect, Microsoft's Xbox Video supports Microsoft's Windows Phone.

You can download it for free from perian.org. To install it simply click on the icon and it will install itself as a Preference Pane. It sits in the background – you don’t need to do anything. Your normal programs such as Keynote and Quicktime will now be able to play any movie format. You will need to quit and restart Quicktime or Keynote after you install Perian.

Perian won’t play every movie. Perian won’t play wmf files and some kinds of AVI movies. To play all files try out VLC for Mac OS X. VLC is awesome and allows you to watch any movie. The only problem with VLC is that it only allows you to watch the movie in it’s own player, not in Keynote or other programs.

I recently tried watching a Netflix movie on a data projector and it would not work. I have subscribed to Netflix, but my data projector is old and Netflix have a copy protection on their service that won’t let you play to older data projectors. Thankfully there is a way around this. You just need to set your web browser to an older version, and it will use an older piece of technology to play the movie which will work on an old data projector.

The error I was getting in Netflix was something like this.

The key to getting Netflix to play on an older data projector is to tell Safari to pretend to be an older version.

  1. Make sure the Safari Develop menu is enabled in Safari ( see this article on how to enable the development you in Safari).

2. Under “User Agent” type in the following:

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_7; de-de) AppleWebKit/525.28.3 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.2.3 Safari/525.28.3

This is telling Safari to act as version 3 of the Safari browser.

3. Go back to the Netflix site and it will prompt you to install a plug-in called ‘Silverlight’. This is because older versions of Safari couldn’t play movies and they needed a plug-in. Thankfully, this older Plug in works with older data projectors that do not have HDCP data protection.

4. When you click ‘Install Now’ it will download the Silverlight installer into your Safari downloads folder. You will need to click on the Silverlight installer to install it.

5. That’s it! Now you should be able to watch the Netflix movie on your data projector.

If you quit your browser and then go back to Netflix and want to watch a movie on the data projector you will need to go to the develop menu again and type in the code. You won’t need to reinstall the Silverlight plug-in each time.
